Our Purpose
Learning to read should be a magical time in a child's life. It opens up the world and makes most things in school easier. When learning to read is difficult, many problems can arise. Our purpose is to provide supplemental games to make learning sight words a fun and engaging experience. Combining this skill with good phonics will help a child on their journey to becoming a successful reader.
Our Story
While working in a reading lab with struggling readers, I began incorporating games into my daily groups. My disengaged students became engaged. They started looking forward to their reading group and began to make progress. As they learned their sight words, we were able to focus on new phonics skills. They started building confidence as they were able to combine sight words and phonics skills to read short stories! Many adults began asking about the changes they were seeing. They asked where they could get the games. I told them I was creating them in my free time. This was the start of Growing Words.
